Yale Conferences & Events (YC&E) made a stellar showing at the 43rd annual Associate of Collegiate Conference and Event Staff Directors - International Conference in Chicago, held from March 11th to March 15th. Associate Director for Events and Program Administration Shannon LeGault and Program Director Megan Palluzzi both delivered highly informative presentations at the event.

Optimizing Methods of Hiring, Recruitment, and Staffing

Megan’s talk, “Optimizing Methods of Hiring, Recruitment, and Staffing,” was centered around the theme of recruitment and staffing procedures for temporary and summer intern staff. She elaborated on the most effective methods for recruiting, like referrals from past employees or by attending local college/university fairs. Megan emphasized the importance of prioritizing diversity in recruitment and provided insights into how to support interns better. Additionally, she showcased how technology could be leveraged through the recruitment and hiring process, citing YC&E’s use of StarRez as an example.

Creating a Community of Learners for Event Professionals at Your College or University

Shannon, along with Kate Vieillard, former YC&E Deputy Director now at Brown University, addressed the topic of “Creating a Community of Learners for Event Professionals at Your College or University” to an audience of approximately 50 attendees from various institutions. Shannon outlined how YC&E has established a community of learners comprised of over 300 full-time and part-time event planning staff at Yale, where they share resources, best practices, and effect change on campus. She and Kate guided the attendees through the process of creating a community of learners and discussed the advantages of having a diverse group of staff members with a range of talents and shared objectives.

Commitment to Professional Development

Also attending from YC&E were Director Jennifer Zuccaro and Senior Program Manager Maddison Capobianco, as well as Yale Housing Director Nathan Lubich and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Housing Caitlin Slattery.

YC&E’s attendance at the ACCED-I Conference underscores our department’s commitment to continuous learning and development. Attending industry conferences and sharing knowledge with others is integral to YC&E’s core values. Megan and Shannon’s presentations were excellent examples of this commitment in action. Kudos to them!
