Where function meets fun: rethinking event design

Emily Roback

Emily Roback, YC&E Assistant Director of Venues, recently attended the “Putting the ‘Fun’ in Functional Events” education program hosted by the MPI Connecticut River Valley Chapter on April 21 at Dave & Buster’s in Milford, CT.

As Vice President of Finance for the chapter, Emily’s participation was especially meaningful, offering the opportunity to engage with content that reflects both her professional role and her commitment to the events industry. The session explored how to strike the right balance between functionality and attendee experience, reinforcing that successful events can and should be both purposeful and engaging.

In addition to the educational content, the program provided a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow event professionals. MPI CRV continues to foster a strong network across Connecticut, where members share ideas, exchange best practices, and support one another’s growth.

“One of the things I value most about MPI CRV is the balance of learning and connection! This session really reinforced that great events don’t have to choose between being functional and fun. Meeting goals can still be met while keeping meeting experiences fresh, new and exciting!” - Emily Roback
