The inaugural Summit on State AI Legislation (SSAIL), hosted by the newly established Yale Digital Ethics Center, took place on March 14th and 15th at the Greenberg Conference Center. This timely symposium convened state and federal legislators from seven states, open-source developers, leading academics, and industry experts from companies like Meta and Wikipedia to discuss the future of AI governance at the state level.
Founded in the fall of 2023, the Yale Digital Ethics Center explores the ethical, legal, and societal implications of digital innovation, aiming to design a more equitable, just, and sustainable information society. SSAIL, organized in collaboration with Connecticut State Senator James Maroney, will contribute to legislative proposals across the country and a commentary article in an academic journal.
The two-day event featured expert panel discussions, networking sessions, and meals catered by Bourassa Catering and Marcia Selden Catering. The closing dinner party showcased a sampling of New Haven Apizza from Pepe’s, Sally’s, and Modern, with live entertainment by Sentinel Salt.
