On March 5th, Yale Physics hosted the annual Silliman Memorial Lecture at the Yale Science Building’s OC Marsh Lecture Hall. This year’s featured speaker, Wendy Freedman, Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Chicago, delivered a compelling lecture on groundbreaking findings from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) regarding the Hubble constant—a key measure of the universe’s expansion.
Professor Freedman discussed recent observations that could shed light on the ongoing Hubble tension, a discrepancy that, if confirmed, suggests something fundamental is missing from our current model of cosmology. Following the lecture, attendees gathered for a reception, where discussions continued on the latest advancements in astrophysics.
