Professional development was at the center of the retreat, and Dr. Brown led us through exercises to better understand our work styles and capitalize off our existing strengths both as individuals and as a department.
We also dove into tactics for building and maintaining a strong team through open and honest communication, creating a workplace culture that emphasizes connection and provides ample opportunities to learn and grow.
To round out the retreat, we learned how to apply these principles not only to our work but to our personal lives as well. Dr. Michael Brown stressed the importance of viewing your career as one of many aspects of a well-rounded, fulfilled life, and we touched on the positive impact that filling your cup outside of work can have on your professional life.
