Yale College Class Day

Event Type:
Event
Event Description:
Class Day has been a tradition for Yale University graduating seniors since the 19th century. This one-day event traditionally takes place the Sunday before Commencement. The entire graduating class gathered to celebrate their time spent together by sharing their own memories and reflections as well as incorporating longstanding traditions of Yale such as singing “Bright College Years” as they wave a white handkerchief. Yale welcomed back acclaimed novelist and essayist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Yale ’08), as she addressed the graduating class. Awards were given out, including the awarding of top academic, artistic, and athletic student, among other prizes. Seniors attended this event wearing their academic gowns with a unique headgear of their choice.
