On February 10, the Yale School of Public Health hosted its 2026 conference, βRebuilding Trust in Public Health: Causes, Consequences, and Responses,β at Kline Tower. Co-sponsored by the Institution for Social and Policy Studies and the MacMillan Center for International & Area Studies at Yale, the event brought together community partners, academics, practitioners, communicators, and policymakers to examine the growing concern around declining trust in public health institutions.
The conference featured four panel discussions exploring the root causes, scope, and impact of public health distrust, along with strategies to restore confidence and strengthen communication. The day culminated in a keynote address and reception, offering attendees opportunities for continued dialogue and connection.
A highlight of the program was a fireside chat with Dean Megan Ranney and Dr. Mike Varshavski, a board-certified family medicine physician and widely recognized health communicator. Their conversation focused on how social media can be leveraged to improve health literacy and outcomes, demonstrating the evolving role of digital platforms in public health engagement.
